Think before you ink. It's an adage designed to prevent people from getting tattoos they may later come to regret, but with 34 per cent of tattooed Australians admitting they wish they hadn't been permanently stamped, and one in seven of that group considering removal, it's a saying that seems to be falling on deaf ears.

According to Michael Driver, a laser technician based in Brisbane, and with tattoo removal clinics in Sydney and Melbourne, tribal tattoos are a common style people are getting removed, portraits gone wrong another, and of course the tattoo almost everyone advises you against getting – your partner's name.

Removing tattoos for potential work opportunities like joining the armed forces is another reason people opt for laser treatments. Other reasons include shoddy work, or just plain regret, however Driver says that 95 per cent of his clients come to his clinic to lighten older tattoos so that they can tattoo bigger, nicer art over the top.
